One of my most valuable experiences has been working with Longwood University’s department of Emergency Management. I worked closely with the director to refurbish outdated policies and review plans for technical changes. My last project was to assist him in planning a tabletop exercise to assess the success of Longwood’s instant command system. It thrilled me to be involved in developing the exercise and contributing to the safety of the Longwood community. I've attached a brief plan, but for safety reasons cannot put a majority of the information online.

Applied Organizational Communication inspired me to pursue a career in conflict management. I loved being able to put my analytic skills to the test and help an organization reach their goals. This was also one of my first leadership opportunities. It was a great experience to take responsibility for a project and see it all the way through.

encouraged me to trust in my abilities and work independently. My first assignment at Bluetick INC. was to learn an extensive computer software system well enough to teach others how to use it. I began writing a manual within the second day of self-teaching and soon became an expert on the system. I used innovative problem solving to offer suggestions on how to adapt the software to all users and improve basic navigation.

while I worked for the Longwood EHS & EMS department was writing grants for the local CERT team. It was a good opportunity to use my written communication skills in a different way.

is my senior research project on how college students use and interact on Twitter during a natural disaster. I'm interested in how peer reviews influence a person's perception of danger and personal risk. This research can help emergency managers reach a younger target audience.
